About Us

Happy, Energetic, Professional and Nurturing

We welcome students of all ages and aim to provide a positive and professional environment in which students develop their passion for dance and are inspired to achieve their full potential. Developing technique and skills including co-ordination, improved posture, musicality and creativity, our friendly classes also help build self-confidence, and students form life-long friendships. Instilled by our founder Annette FitzGerald, every student is important within the Florian family and caring for everyone’s well-being stretches beyond the dance studio.

Ballet

We have a passion for ballet at Florian and nurture creativity and imagination whilst teaching ballet technique. We follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus and students have the option of working towards exams (Pre-primary, Primary and Grades 1-8). Younger children attend one weekly ballet class but from Grade 3 upwards we recommend where possible, that students attend two weekly ballet classes. From Grade 4 upwards, students have the additional opportunity of studying the RAD Vocational Grades (Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation and Advanced 1 & 2).

Modern Theatre

Modern dance is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. Modern is an excellent choice for those students wanting to take on another dance genre alongside their ballet classes. Our modern classes follow the ISTD syllabus and children can enter exams if they wish.

Tap

Tap is a theatrical art form often seen on stage and in films. It is great fun and develops strong musicality, rhythm and performance qualities. As with Modern Theatre, we offer classes for children aged 5 + and follow the ISTD syllabus with optional exams.

Contemporary

Contemporary has fast become one of the most popular genres for dancers and our classes develop technique alongside creative freedom and artistic expression. We offer three levels of contemporary from age 9 +. Classes are non-syllabus and explore the many sub-genres within this dance form developing elements of contract, release, spiral, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation.

Jazz

Our jazz classes are non-exam based and follow the general format of a warm up, limbering/conditioning exercises, floor sequences and choreography. A wide variety of jazz styles are covered from lyrical to commercial & street, and it is excellent for conditioning, core strength and for improving stamina and flexibility

Florian Dance Companies

Building on the success of our wonderful Florian shows and students’ enjoyment of performance, we are offering dancers from Year 3 and above to join our new dance companies. Students will learn new choreography each term from a mix of dance genres including jazz, modern, ballet and contemporary performing at end of year showcases and at local community events. We now have three companies – level 1, 2 and 3- which are open to any Florian students participating in technique classes, so long as they are committed and enthusiastic.
