HAMPSHIRE YOUTH DANCE COMPANY
Five of our senior students, who have been dancing with Hampshire Youth Dance Company (HYDC) for the past four years, gave their final performance with the Company on Tuesday 26th July. And with the exception of one, who has another year at 6th form college, all the others will be going on to pursue dance related careera. As with all our leavers, we wish them all the best of luck for the future.

CONGRATULATIONS TO TILLY WIGHTMAN
Tilly Wightman was a student at Florian for a number of years before joining the Royal Ballet Upper School, Covent Garden in 2020. We were extremely proud that Tilly was chosen to dance the lead role of Molly in John Neumeier’s piece ‘Yondering’ at the end of year performance at the Royal Opera House. Despite being offered a third year at the Upper School, Tilly has chosen to join the Junior Ballet Company Antwerp. And to top her offer, she has also been chosen for the lead role of Cinderella in their production next season! Congratulations Tilly from your Florian family!

CONGRATULATIONS TO JON RODD
Jon Rodd has been a pupil at Florian from the age of 4 and we all remember him dancing in his first show as the most adorable and totally focused Flintstone! Fast forward 14 years to this summer and once again Jon absolutely nailed his role as the scarecrow in our production ‘Over the Rainbow’ based on the story of the Wizard of Oz. In the past year, even whilst studying for his A levels, Jon has been as busy and motivated as ever… London Studio Centre Associate Course, Hampshire Youth Dance Company (HYDC), awarded RAD Intermediate with Distinction. Jon will continue his dance training in the autumn, joining the degree course at London School of Contemporary Dance. Congratulations Jon, we’re so very proud of you.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SAM EAST
Sam East absolutely smashed the role of Witch of the West in our recent show ‘Over the Rainbow’ based on the story of the ‘Wizard of Oz’. In the audition process he requested a ‘non acting role’ and so he surprised himself with what he’s truly capable of when given a challenge! Sam will continue his dance training in September when he joins Laban Trinity. Good luck on your dance journey Sam, with love from all of us at Florian.

CONGRATULATIONS TO KATY TSANGARIS
Congratulations to Katy Tsangaris who successfully completed the Royal Academy of Dance examiner training programme at the end of last year and joined the RAD Board of Examiners in January 2022. School principal, Annette FitzGerald has been examining for the Academy since 1994 and so we are very proud to have two RAD examiners in Team Florian!
Congratulations to Katy Tsangaris

NATIONAL YOUTH BALLET PRODUCTION - 2ND SEPTEMBER
Congratulations to the cast and all involved in the recent National Youth Ballet production at Sadlers Wells Theatre. Such a polished production and an amazing achievement in just 10 days! We were especially proud of one of our own young dancers, Tilly Wightman. Tilly, also a Senior Associate with the Royal Ballet School, was promoted to a Principal dancer by NYB and gave a beautifully poised and confident performance. And quite something to dance your first pas de deux on Sadlers Wells stage!

Saturday 17th September and The Great Hall in Winchester was venue for a smart, ‘Downton’ themed evening in aid of the Mayor’s charities. We were delighted to be invited to perform at the event and very proud of the small group of Floriannettes who performed the Charleston with all the energy and personality that it requires. As always it was a joy to work with such professional and warm human beings.

July 2016. I was delighted to join two former students, Molly Shaw-Downie and Kyle Alexander, recently for an afternoon of celebrations at White Lodge, Royal Ballet School. Both students have just completed their final year at the Lower School and are moving on. Molly, who has been a popular head girl, will be joining Central School of Ballet in September whilst Kyle is keeping his options open regarding a career in dance/drama, for the time being anyway. Well done to both young dancers, we continue to be extremely proud of you of you both.

We were delighted to be invited to take part again in the annual St Paul's Community Day. The weather was perfect for the event last Saturday 7th May and a group of our young dancers performed with great enthusiasm. Thank you and we'll done to everyone. On the 13th March dancers from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures Company were invited to join us for a day of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ workshops. A huge amount of fun was had by all and with so many former Florian students returning for the adult session at the end of the day, it really did feel like Florian family reunion!
