The Florian School of Dance - Classes

In all our classes we aim to offer the highest quality of teaching and training. The majority of our students choose to take examinations in their chosen genre. However, some prefer to attend classes just for fun and without the pressure of working towards an exam. Either way every student is valued. We aim to create a happy, friendly, professional and focused environment in which every student will enjoy learning, work hard and realise their full potential. We also encourage students to be supportive and respectful of others.

- Pre School/Nursery Ballet Classes

Suitable for 3 - 4 year olds

We have pianists to accompany all these classes and teachers are also supported by a classroom assistant who will either be a trainee teacher or one of our more senior students. For this reason we do not require parents to remain in the dance studio during lessons. However, this may be necessary when a child is starting classes with us, in order to help them settle.

Classes are imaginative and fun. We enjoy story telling through music and movement but without the need for lots of additional props! One of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) mantras feeling before form certainly applies to our nursery classes where the children are learning to move freely with expression and confidence.

- Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D) - Pre Primary - Advanced 2

For Reception age children & above

The School follows the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) and students are prepared for examinations at all levels.

- The Graded syllabus from Pre-Primary to Grade 8

- The Vocational Graded syllabus: Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation and Advanced 1 & 2).

Younger children attend one weekly ballet class but from Grade 3 upwards we recommend where possible, that students attend two weekly ballet classes in order to keep up with the increase in demands of the work.

From Grade 4 upwards (approximately 11 years +) those students who are more serious about their dancing have the opportunity of studying the RAD Vocational Grades alongside the RAD Grades.

- Back to Ballet Class

This class is intended for teenagers who are interested in starting ballet but are not keen on the idea of joining a class with younger children. Our Back to Ballet class is also suitable for boys and girls who may have attended ballet classes at a young age and have then taken a break. Either way, students who are consistent with their attendance and work hard are frequently able to slot into classes with their peer group at a later date.

- Adult Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz & Tap classes

With three adult ballet classes currently on the timetable we have a class for everyone. Whether you are new to classical ballet or have been dancing for a good number of years, we have a class for you. Some of our more experienced adults even choose to join our vocational classes.
